When Rachel and I agreed to start a new online journal for poetry and art many moons ago, we shared a vision of inclusivity. We talked about the voices that often aren’t heard, the poets and artists lying half asleep in the woodwork who would be encouraged to write and create art when they heard our WILLAWAW call. And you did! We are so deeply thrilled by your crafted, cradled, heartfelt and artistic words and art ~ we are all the richer for it.
Without others to hear our words, to see our art, to witness, receive, assess and reflect, our art becomes a site of deep loneliness wherein we might drown if it weren’t for the thought that ‘someday, someone will read this, and they will understand’.
“No audience. No echo. That’s part of one’s death.”(Virginia Woolf 1954:323).
So, here’s to all of us and our fine journey on the good ship WILLAWAW.
